How to make a lyric video or visualizer for your song

A lyric video or a visualizer gives a song something to watch wherever it is posted. Both work best when the motion follows the music.

Making it in Motiontone

  1. 1

    Start

Open any template from the gallery and make it your own, or start from a blank canvas. You can begin without an account.

  2. 2

    Song

Upload the track. Motiontone finds its beat, and any property can move with it: a scale that pulses on every beat, or a glow that follows only the Bass, Mids or Highs. Trim the song to start at the part fans know best.

  3. 3

    Lyrics

Paste the lyric sheet into a text box, then tap along with the song to time each line. The words change on your taps, and a cascade can animate each new line in one letter, word or line at a time. A blank line in the sheet leaves a gap for an instrumental break.

  4. 4

    Imagery

Add your cover art, photos or video clips, and effects such as blur, glow, grain or color. For a visualizer, let shapes and colors follow the Bass, Mids or Highs.

  5. 5

    Motionbot

Describe the motion you want and Motionbot, the built-in assistant, animates it. Every change it makes stays editable, keyframe by keyframe.

  6. 6

    Sizes

Add artboards for an Instagram post (4:5), a story, reel or TikTok (9:16) and a square. They share one timeline, so every size moves together. Add a 16:9 artboard for YouTube.

  7. 7

    Safe zones

Turn on the social media safe zones to see where the TikTok and Reels buttons and captions will sit over your design, and keep your text clear of them. They only show in the editor, never in the video.

  8. 8

    Export

Export an MP4 for each size and post it.
